SONG | CHAPTER/CHARACTER | NOTES |
---|---|---|
The Quest, by Leah | The Whole Book | If the entire novel could only have one song as a soundtrack, this would be it. 10 minutes long and every minute worth it! |
Flight Of Kings, by The Classic Crime | Karn | "Do you know this song's for you?" is sung in the context of battle ("A sword for my fight"). Everything Karn does is for his daughter. |
Down, by Thousand Foot Krutch | Kallar | The line "you can't take me, you'll never bring me down" just embodies Kallar, as does the mixture of rough rap and singing. |
Legions of Doom, by Audiomachine | Prologue | The soundtrack as Karn and his men fight the dragons on the mountainside. |
Waving Through A Window, by Owl City | Alísa | This song speaks so well to Alísa's social anxieties and feeling of no one ever hearing her, as well as to her fear that she'll never live up to her potential. |
Lights of Reedsport, by Falling Calling Up | Chapter 1 | Alísa's empathy overwhelms her at the ceremony, but the knowledge that this is a blessing and not a curse is soon to come ("your life, it will be found"). |
Elixir of Life, by Leah | Chapter 2 | This song inspired the tale of Tohmra and Eldra D'tala that Farren sings near the end of the chapter. |
Exhibition, by Falling Up | Chapters 4-5 | Alísa's realization of the dragons' personhood, and that her people aren't going to listen to her. |
Bitter Uprising, by The Classic Crime | Koriana | This song embodies Koriana's conviction, readiness for action, and pragmatism. |
Labyrinth, by Leah | Chapter 9 | As Alísa sits with the dragons in their ice cave, her eyes are further opened. The chapter name and line from Alísa's lullaby "within these walls" also shows up in this song, albeit in a different context. |
The Real, by Nevertheless | Graydonn | Graydonn's never-ending hope for this newly-forming clan with Alísa—scared but strong Alísa—at the head. "This is you, this is me. This is who we're meant to be." |
Step It Out Mary, by The High Kings | Chapter 14 | This song inspired the tale Bria spins for the hatchlings in the cave, which P'laenn promptly stops as it turns to the lovers' suicide. |
Icarus, by Iván Torrent | Chapter 14 | The soundtrack for the final battle in the tale of Bria, as things turn desperate and Bria and P'laenn make their final stand, clutching hope for the future. |
Warrior Poet, by The Classic Crime | Chapter 14 | The anger of the "warrior-poet" fits so well with Bria's anger at the destruction the slayers bring to a once-peaceful village, and the final line cuts off abruptly as our historical heroes' lives are cut short. |
Oblivion, by Leah | Chapter 15 | Alísa's conflict as she wonders at the story of Bria. How can she be meant to fight for one side when she stands somewhere in-between? |
Celebration Jig, by David Arkenstone | Chapter 17 | The first song of the céilí. |
The Lost Get Found, by Britt Nicole | Selene | Selene's philosophy. Though she is an introvert and sometimes has a hard time with crowds, she always seeks the lost in order to help them. |
Be Somebody, by Thousand Foot Krutch | Falier | Falier often feels like he's in the wrong place, like he's meant to do more but cannot. "I'm just the boy inside the man, not exactly who you think I am...We all want to be somebody." |
Salt In The Snow, by The Classic Crime | Chapter 20 | This song evokes in me feelings of hard questions and searching, much like Alísa as she turns from Me'ran back to the dragons' cave. |
Unbreakable, by Two Steps From Hell | Chapter 20 | The soundtrack as Alísa races to get to Sesína's egg and faces the fear and trauma of past experiences with hatchlings' emotions. |
Lost Empire, by Audiomachine | Chapters 22-23 | The soundtrack as Rorenth's scouts attack Koriana and Graydonn, and then as the dreki give chase. |
I Know The Feeling, by The Classic Crime | Chapter 24 | Falier questions where he belongs, and Kat comforts him. |
One More, by Superchic[k] | Sesína | Sesína will never give up, and neither does this song. The lyrics embody both what she tells herself and how she encourages Alísa. |
All I Need To Be, by Fireflight | Chapter 27 | As Alísa struggles with Bria in the depths of her mind, she realizes that she was made to walk a different path than Bria did. "Make me believe You have made me all I need to be." |
Slip Into Spring / The Harvest, by Bill Whelan | Chapter 32 | The first part is Alísa watching the dancers while leaning against the wall of the Hold. The second is the dance Falier pulls her into that is too fast for her doom-and-gloom-y thoughts. |
Heart Of Courage, by Two Steps From Hell | Chapter 32 | The scout dragons are coming, and Alísa knows it's time for her to make her stand. |
Ignite, by Fireflight | Chapters 32-33 | Alísa has never been able to use her powers corrently, but now she cannot hold back. "Don't hesitate to explode; burn the pain inside your soul…and ignite." |
No One, by Aly & AJ | Chapter 36 | Alísa and Falier have both been held back from who they are meant to be, but now they are beginning to find who those people are. |
Sing, by The Classic Crime | Chapter 38 | Over the noise of the overbearing alpha dragon, Alísa calls for dragons who wish for the war to end. "We sing the same song, you and I… Join the chorus so we can start again." |
Arcade, by Hans Zimmer, Junkie XL | Chapter 42 | The soundtrack as Alísa's clan approaches Rorenth's mountain in a desperate plan to save lives, moving into the beginning of the battle. |
The Resistance, by Skillet | Chapter 43 | Alísa has unlocked the dragon inside of her and sings her warsong, declaring the purpose of her new clan to bring justice. |
War Of Change, by Thousand Coot Krutch | Chapter 43 | Falier in the midst of battle. He is lost here ("it's more than I can take"), until he finally allows the mind-kin bond with Graydonn to take hold. |
Again, by Flyleaf | Chapter 45 | Alísa faces another hatchling in turmoil and this time, instead of fighting her empathy, she accepts it. The pain and grief flow, but are no longer overwhelming. "Only surrender will help you now." |
Wars Of Faith, by Audiomachine | Chapter 45 | The soundtrack as Alísa comes face-to-face with her family again, and once more "fails" to get them to listen to her. |
Atlas: Two, by Sleeping At Last | Chapter 46 | Falier helps Alísa through her pain and they admit their feelings for each other. |
Where No One Goes, by Peter Hollens | Chapter 47 | Alísa & Sesína flying together for the first time and taking joy in the sky. |
